Surely you are already thinking about enjoying the good weather, and the city of Malaga is perfect for it.  Many people take advantage of the arrival of February to make a break on the Costa del Sol.

Today we want to tell you what to do during February in Malaga:

THE MONTH OF CARNIVAL

Carnival is one of the most popular festivals in Spain.  A celebration that combines costumes, coplas, parades and street parties.  If you like this type of party you can enjoy, both in Malaga and in the city of Cadiz, authentic parades.

Carnival in Malaga

Date: 21 February – 1 March

A party is full of tradition and culture.  This year also marks the 40th anniversary in the city of Malaga.  A party, promoted by the Fundación Ciudadana del Carnaval, which begins with comparsas, quartets, choirs and murgas in the Teatro Cervantes.

The street Carnival is held the week before Ash Wednesday, a week that ends on the Malagueta beach with the burial of the Boquerón.

The Malaga singer, Vanesa Martín, will be responsible for giving voice to the Malaga Carnival 2020.

Carnival in Cadiz

Date: 20 February – 1 March

A unique Carnival that, together with that of Tenerife, is the most important in Spain.  A city that transforms itself during those days to live its big party and, thousands of fans that wait with illusion the arrival of the Carnival.  Every year, during January and February, the Carnival Grouping Competition is held in the Gran Teatro Falla.

This year, the opening speech of Cadiz, which gives way to the street party, will be given by the Cadiz artist David Palomar.

The King’s Basketball Cup

Date: 13 to 16 February

Did you know that in 2020 Malaga is the European Capital of Sport? A city that hosts numerous sporting events throughout the year, and during February stands out for the celebration of the King’s Basketball Cup.

The King’s Basketball Cup will take place in the Martin Carpena Sports Palace in Malaga. You can find all the information here.

Poetry and Life [Anna Akhmatova]

In the Russian Museum of the city of Malaga, you can find the exhibition entitled Poetry and Life, a portrait of the men in Anna’s life as well as poems, books, and objects to get to know the great lady of Russian poetry better.

A collection you can find at the Centre Pompidou Malaga. An exhibition with 75 works that cover the author’s life. Here you can see the practice of gouache and Indian ink before the discovery of acrylic.  “To draw is to question oneself”, wrote the author.

During February, the province of Malaga experiences one of the most beautiful moments in nature. There are many fields in Malaga that offer the possibility to see the Almond trees in flower.  A good way to approach them or enjoy beautiful views is through an excursion.
