Hans Christian Andersen Statue

In Plaza de la Marina, by the port and at the start of Calle Larios, a bronze sculpture honours the Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen, author of tales such as "The Little Mermaid" and "The Ugly Duckling". The work of José María Córdoba, it was commissioned by the Danish Royal House and unveiled on 14 June 2005, the bicentenary of his birth. It shows Andersen sitting on a bench, as if resting during a walk through the city.

Andersen and Málaga

Andersen visited Málaga in October 1862, during the journey he described in his book "In Spain". He was struck by the light, the sea and the life on its streets, and wrote that in no other Spanish city had he felt as happy and at ease as in Málaga.

A must for a photo

There is space on the bench beside the writer, so many visitors sit next to him for a photo. From Plaza de la Marina it is a two-minute walk to the Marquis of Larios Monument and Calle Larios, and Muelle Uno and the Paseo del Parque are just a few steps away.
